The Powerful Women of Price Attack

In honour of the month that celebrates women, and of course our newest campaign, we wanted to shine a spotlight over the incredible women of Price Attack. We wouldn't be able to do what we do without the contribution of women, and we are more than excited to introduce some pretty inspiring characters in our mist.

Aimee Madson, National Marketing Manager

Could you tell us about yourself?
Hi! I’m the National Marketing Manager here at Price Attack and have been steering the marketing for just over three years now with my fantastic team. I have previously worked in luxury automotive and bicycle retailing but have absolutely found my passion now working in the beauty industry! I’m a wife, a mum of two rascal boys and a dog mum to two chunky dogs. In my spare time, you’ll find me building Lego, playing with dump trucks at the beach and occasionally sneaking out with my husband for a foodie adventure at one of Brisbane’s newest restaurants.

What is your biggest accomplishment?
As a mum of two boys, of course they are my greatest loves and achievements. However beyond the obvious I would say that being able to juggle and (sometimes) balance the art of having a career and a family would be my greatest accomplishment. I’ve worked full time since both of my boys were 7 months old as I wanted to be a role model for them, and work made me appreciate every moment. Parenting and working full time is no small feat and sometimes simply walking into the office of a morning (with weetbix on my shoulder and a dishevelled hairstyle) is considered a success. Lucky I’m surrounded by amazing hair products and some in-house hairdressers to help me out 😊

Advice you would give your younger self?
Worry less about what other people think and do what makes your heart happy.

Someone that inspires you?
Anyone who knows me will be rolling their eyes right now but I adore Taylor Swift. Yes for her undeniable talent but also for her determination, her grit and her values. She speaks out against bullying and harassment. She advocates for LGBTQi+ rights. She’s a genuine supporter of other women and she’s a role model to the younger generation, spotlighting that it’s ok to be different. Having recently returned from her concert in Sydney, it was incredible to see a community of fans so entwined in friendship and kindness. What’s not to love?!

Melanie Gillis, Senior Warehouse Supervisor

Could you tell me about yourself?
I’m originally from Sydney where I worked as an Inventory Controller for a Pharmaceutical Company for 7 years. Decided I needed a sea change, so I moved to Brisbane in 2012.

I have currently been with Price Attack for 11 years and enjoy it.

What are your biggest accomplishments?
Working at Price Attack Distribution and watching it grow over the years and being part of the growth. I started as a Pick Packer and I’m now the Warehouse Supervisor.

Advice you would give your younger self?
Know your worth, follow your passion and believe in yourself.

Someone that inspires you?
My parents, as they have always instilled a feeling of self-belief and being able to achieve anything you set your mind to.

Elizabeth Reid, QLD Area Manager

Could you tell me about yourself?

I am an award-winning sales executive. My passion and inspiration for sales and developing my team led me to seek to be a sales and training development specialist. I have over 25 years of experience across global and local markets and three leading industries, and the one key factor is connecting with the customer and finding a solution to serve their needs best.  Outside of work, my passion for cooking allows me to relax and express my love to family and friends. Looking ahead, I aspire to retire in Italy with my husband, envisioning a future where I can immerse myself in this beautiful country's rich culture and picturesque landscapes.

What are your biggest accomplishments?

I was part of the executive team that opened the first House of Hoops in Australia (HOH), collaborating with Nike and Foot Locker. This venture demonstrated the power of hard work and determination. This project allowed me to work with the New York office and connect with BB players and leading brand managers.

Ten years ago, I won an annual Nike global award- Maximum #2- Nike is a company. This award was very special to me; at the time, I was the only woman (and mother) in the A/Pac footwear sales team and had to fight my way through the club. Hard work and finding new ways to do business – sharing best practices globally drove sales by 47%. It showed me that when you have a goal and work hard, you can achieve your dreams.

Advice you would give your younger self?

Burn limiting beliefs, trust your gut feelings, and don’t dwell on things beyond your control. Work hard, prioritize education, and strive for financial independence- the foundation that empowers you through life.

Someone who inspires you?

Turia Pitt- survivor and warrior- Turia was able to move past the pain of her recovery and find beauty- beauty within herself, bravery, family, and charity work.

Emma Mackenzie, Founder of MIMI HAIRCARE

Could you tell me about yourself?
Emma Mackenzie, mum of 2 and founder of MIMI HAIRCARE FOR KIDS.

Your biggest accomplishments?
Having my kids and building a company that supports working mum’s. Motherhood is a juggle, and I am passionate about accommodating flexibility. The focus should be on output. This creates a much more creative and motivated culture which in turn delivers better results.

Advice you would give your younger self?
If something is not working… change lanes. Shift your energy from a negative situation or task that is not working. Be creative and problem solve. By letting go and moving forward the reward is even greater.

Someone that inspires you?
The women around me, friends, my daughter, my sister and especially my mum. I was raised to be independent. Education was important in my family. My grandmother graduated from Sydney University during WW2. My mum always encouraged me to ask lots of questions, to seize every opportunity and to make my own money .

Marissa McLoughlin, Director of Ugly Swan

Tell me about yourself?

Sure! I'm a proud mom of three wonderful kids. When I'm not busy with mom duties, you can usually find me hitting the gym or exploring new ways to stay active – exercise is my passion! I'm incredibly driven and always strive to achieve my goals, whether it's in my personal life or professional endeavours. One of my greatest joys is expressing my creativity & I thrive on developing new products and innovative solutions that meet market needs and exceed expectations.

Your biggest accomplishments?

Personally, my biggest accomplishments are undoubtedly my three amazing children: Jack, Tommy, and Lucy. They bring me immeasurable pride and laughter every single day. Professionally, my greatest achievement has been taking the leap to leave my 18-year career and co-found Ugly Swan with Annette Short. Building our business from scratch, designing innovative products, and having the courage to pursue our entrepreneurial dreams has been incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, successfully registering all our products with NDIS has been a significant milestone in our journey. Moreover, being recognized for creating the best Detangling Brush in 2023 was a testament to our hard work and dedication to crafting quality products.

Advice you would give your younger self?

If I could give advice to my younger self, I would emphasize the importance of understanding personal aspirations and goals. I would tell myself that while some individuals find fulfilment in contributing to others' successes, others have the drive to build their own empires. Recognizing this distinction earlier on could have spared me from hesitating to pursue my entrepreneurial dreams. I would encourage myself to trust in my abilities and take the leap into entrepreneurship sooner, knowing that building something of my own would ultimately bring me greater satisfaction and fulfilment.

Someone that inspires you?

Someone who truly inspires me is my daughter Lucy. Despite her young age, Lucy has already grasped the importance of hard work and dedication in achieving one's goals. I admire her determination and the grit she displays in pursuing what she sets her mind to. Whenever I see her focused and passionately working towards her aspirations at just 14 years old, it fills me with admiration and serves as a reminder of the power of perseverance and unwavering commitment.

This is just a handful of the PowHERful women that make Price Attack incredible. Don't forget to tell someone in your life how incredible and powerful they are today.
