Hair Care Products for Blowdrying and Straightening

Hair DryerWe all know how much our hair means to us, and we all know how easy it is to damage our hair, but on the contrary, how many of us know how easy it is to maintain healthy hair? This article will look into some of the hair care essentials to protect your hair from heat damage.

Excessive heat caused by blowdrying and straightening are the two main culprits of damaged hair. Although an excessive amount of heat will always be damaging in some way or another (give your hair a rest when possible!), there are ways to protect your hair during this process.

Blowdrying – whether you blowdry for volume, ease and speed or straighter hair, the effects of the heat results in the same damage to your hair – dried hair and split ends are the two most common effects. Fortunately, protecting your hair when blowdrying is reasonably simple with a few hair products. When blowdrying, after a quick towel dry, prep your hair with anti-frizz solution or a leave in conditioner – this will protect against initial heat as well as seal in moisture. Start blowdrying at the nape of the neck and section off in quarters. Use the lowest heat setting and use your fingers until hair is about half dry. After this, use a paddle brush to distribute the heat evenly for the remainder.

Straightening – whether you straighten for the style or the maintenance, as with blowdrying, the excessive heat can cause damage to your hair. An ESSENTIAL hair care product is thermal protection. Before straightening, mist on some thermal protection. Start a few centimetres from the scalp and use a tail comb immediately after to ensure even distribution of the heat. When complete finish it off with a hair care product such as anti humidity hare care spray or a hair product suck as hair smoothing cream or hairspray.

Another product which is ideal in protecting your hair against heat is L’oreal’s Mythic Oil. This is an oil that is lightweight, and is perfect for keeping your hair looking shiny and supple. This oil can be used before blowdrying, or after heat styling. All you need to do is apply a few drops onto your hair, and you will look like you just walked out of a salon.
