With so many great hair products on the market, it can be tough to narrow down the number of products sitting on your shower shelf. Like skin care, we tend to be enticed by every hair product that claims to make our hair shiny, supple, wavy, curly, healthy and strong.
So how many products do we actually need and how do we layer them to reap the benefits of each product? We suggest the below routine, which of course is customisable to individual hair needs.
Step 1: Shampoo & Conditioner
This might be stating the obvious but first on the list of products you need are shampoo and conditioner. Your haircare routine starts in the shower so make sure you speak to a hair professional in order to choose the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type.
Step 2: Leave-In Conditioner & Detangler
If you have unruly hair, you’re probably already familiar with leave-in conditioner/detangler. However, this product can benefit all types of hair and will keep it strong and healthy, preventing unnecessary tugging and pulling.
Step 3: Heat Protectant & Oil
Some leave-in conditioners/detanglers will contain heat protectant properties, but if it doesn’t you will definitely need to add this one into your routine. Make sure to apply from mid-length to ends. PPS Cheat The Heat thermal protectant is ideal for all hair types. It helps to detangle whilst strengthening, nourishing and providing heat protection.
Step 4: Thickening/Volume Products
Now that your hair is protected it’s time to add some volume (if required). We love Nak Volume Foam, designed to thicken hair and enhance volume and styling fullness; or the Davroe Voluminous Spray which instantly creates maximum volume for any hair.Â
Step 5: Styling Products
Last but not least is styling products - this will be dependent on the look you’re trying to achieve or the type of hair you have. Here are some of our favourite styling products for different looks AG Re:Coil Curl Activator, Davroe Murray River Salt Spray & Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Sparkler.
