To celebrate 15 years of supporting breast cancer charities and more than $15 million raised globally, ghd have collaborated with tattoo artist David Allen to create an original design based on his acclaimed work in concealing mastectomy scars.
David Allen is a Chicago-based tattoo artist, and in 2010 he started tattooing mastectomy scars and thus guiding women through one of life’s most traumatic experiences, recovery from breast cancer.
David has made it mission to help women reclaim their femininity and to take back their body with design principles to draw attention away for the scarring thanks to elegant and feminine floral patterns.
But above the tattoo itself, what really matters to David is to stand as an advocate for these women and to enable them to make decisions for themselves. Because breast cancer takes away more than your hair, your breasts, it takes your confidence.
“If you think of hairstylists and the time they spend with their clients – the validation that happens when you hear someone’s story, when you’re listening, when you’re present…that matters. There’s healing in that.” – David Allen
To raise awareness to ghd’s collaboration with David Allen, ghd chose to share the story of two women who have gone through the traumatic experience of breast cancer and who decided to take back control of their body with the help of David.
