If any faux holiday is worth celebrating, it’s this one, Galentine’s Day. A day dedicated to showering your female friends with love and celebrating friendship. So, ladies leave the fellas at home and celebrate a day of lady love with your gal-pals this Galentine’s Day!
What's the meaning of Galentine's Day?
The term Galentine’s Day originated from television sitcom Parks and Recreation. Coined by Amy Poehler’s character Leslie Knope, it falls on February 13th, the day before Valentine’s Day. She describes it as ladies celebrating ladies.
Poehler’s character celebrates “the best day of the year” with brunch, though you can rejoice in the day any way you like. We’ve put together a few ideas:
Galentine's Day Ideas
Pyjama Slumber Party!
Gather the girls round for an old-style slumber party, sans your dad majorly embarrassing you in his underpants at 3am expressing his need for sleep!
Grab some pizzas, apply a reviving hair treatment, we ❤️ Pure Sacred Mask with shea butter for silky soft hair, and put a video in the old JVC VCR. Hey wait, we might have gone a little too old-style, but you get the gist. Super chill, and comfy girly time!
Create little gift bags for your gals, with a few things for the night ahead; sleeps masks, bed socks, toothbrush, and don’t forget the chocolate! A pyjama party is a fun way to catch up with the girls, and who doesn’t love hanging out in their pyjamas?!
Galentine's Day Road Trip
Not so much Thelma and Louise, more Sideways. Let your hair down and discover Australia’s best food and wine trails with a road trip. Think vineyards, paddock to plate, cheese factories and orchards.
Dust off the driving gloves, pack some car snacks and escape on a culinary adventure, or better yet pack for a weekend and enjoy a mini-vacay, girls only!
With summer coming to an end, there’s no better time for a wine tasting road trip than harvesting season. The weather’s cooler and the wineries are abuzz with harvesting events. The only thing left to decide is where to.
Picnic Perfect Galentine's Day
Let’s go on a picnic, alpaca lunch! Head outdoors for some fun in the sun with a picnic. Plan an al fresco lunch with drinks and finger food or find a public BBQ for breakfast in the park.
Choose dishes that can be made in advance and travel well. Keep sauces and dressings separate to avoid meals going soggy. Keep food simple as generally you’re eating off a plate balanced on your lap.
Gather the girls and spend a couple of hours stress-free outdoors. Nothing beats sunshine and laughter to boost your mood, reset and reflect.
Try Something New for Galentine's Day
New experiences lead to feelings of self-actualization. But if we’re honest, trying new things can be scary. So why not explore something new with your best girl and grow stronger together.
Explore a new hobby together or take an art or craft class and learn something new. Or perhaps a cooking class and fire up your inner master chef. Do a pole-dancing class or even go bungee jumping!
Whether you end up finding a new hobby or not, you’ll have tried something new, and we can almost guarantee you’ll have a few laughs.
Galentine's Day Pamper Party
Surprise your girls with a relaxing pamper session. Book some time at your fav day spa for foot scrubs and pedis, or relax in a steam room, sauna or plunge pool.
Short on cash? For a little amusement, why not test out those DIY home remedies. Mixing up your own hair and beauty treatments is not only fun but can be gratifying as you learn new and simple ways to care for your skin.
Or book you and your girls in for a salon wash and blow dry. Let our salon stylists leave you floating on air and feeling gorgeous. A pamper sesh will not only leave you and your squad feeling relaxed and revived but legitimately happier and healthier.
Whether you choose to spend the whole day, weekend or even an hour celebrating Galentine’s Day, it will quickly become “the best day of the year”.
